This blog profiles our endeavors to make my home as energy efficient as possible. I'm not a super-hippy tree-hugger...I just prefer to spend my money on fun stuff rather than giving it to utilities. Also this blog illustrates that by making some simple investments, you too can significantly reduce energy usage in in a normal suburban home to save money.

Vent free gas log
After 2 hrs and 3 trips to lowes, I finally replaced my vented gas log with a vent free gas log. Its fantastic and really heats up the room. Plus it uses a third the gas than the old one.
Hopefully this will help lower the heating bills.
Fyi...we called the electric company and the previous folks AVERAGED $372/mo from Dec thru Mar. So we're not so bad...

Hmmmm... and who should you credit to this fantastic idea?
ReplyDeleteDo you know how your current avg home temperature compares to the previous folks? For an extreme example if you keep your house at 70 and they kept it at 60 then the improvement is tremendous, if it's the other way around then that eats a little into the gains.
ReplyDeleteGood question...I don't know really. I do know that the programmable thermostat downstairs was set to 70 when folks were home and I think 65 or 64 when they were away. I can't recall really. Upstairs did not have a programmable thermostat so that was at a constant temperature, although they could have just turned it up/down when they were away.
